Rare drawing by Gustave Doré. The artist masterfully renders the intensity of the attack and the night fire.
Arrived in Hanoi on 5 November 1873 with 140 sailors, 30 soldiers and 10 officers, adding some 50 Chinese and with the support of 2 gunners (one is in the background), on 19 November, Garnier removes in one hour the citadel defended by 7 000 Annamites.
Leblanc, in his Catalogue des œuvres de Gustave Doré, does not list this drawing.
Very slight accidents in the frame. Drawing of great rarity.
