Rare Parisian edition published under Henry IV, in accordance with the decrees of the Council of Trent and the will of the Counter-Reformation. Forthe conversion of the Béarnais in 1593, marking the end of the wars of religion, the catholic church regained strength and vigour in Paris, as evidenced by the publication of this gradual, on the eve of the regency of the very Catholic Mary of Medici ; Henri was to succumb to Ravaillac’s dagger the following year, in 1610.
Copy enriched with theIntroïtus of the XIXth sunday after Pentecost, contemporary manuscript ( 3 pp. and a line), bound between pp. 448 and 449, other version more developed than the printed version. Some contemporary marginal annotations in French (34), some corrections or musical additions (298, 432 for example.).
Only concerns holidays and Sundays ; texts on the saints in the pp. 465-599 then i-ccxxi, as the index shows, were not selected for this copy. Complete gradual in itself.
